The cut of the skirt
I loved the way the skirt is draped along the floor and even though she is holding the skirt i like that it it shorter at the front.
Expanding ideas
I still like the idea of the person being a doll/puppet.
How the blanket started for my skirt.. The material is already woven so I need to be careful how I cut it.
Images that have inspired my final designs on the skirt;
Tuesday
Monday 22nd Nov
Notes: SKIRT
Stripes will not be straight (curve round each fold)
Zips; decoration, purpose, bottom up
Waist off center - shorter at one side, longer at the other
Hem - decoration?
Seams on the outside..
Skirt is cut into quarters to make a circular skirt
elastic - gathered around the waist
50's - big prints/dots?
PERSONAL STATEMENT draft :)

Friday 19th Nov
1. Make a robot wearing a floral circular skirt using mixed media ✔
2. Draw your made robotic doll actual size using appropriate/selected media, and line drawing.✔
I liked the idea that the man made colours were dripping off the robot only leaving the structure.
Thursday 18th Nov
We had to bring in -->
Research,
Photos of the gardens,
Bright paint,
Our paintings done at the gardens.
I had looked at Warhol's 'Ten Foot Flowers' and Monet's 'Water Lillies' and a few other books that all contributed to what I did today.
Using two or more photos I painted floral designs that could be repeated, I used bright coloured paper as the background as the 'man made' influence. I am very happy with the outcomes and will use these as inspiration for my skirt!

WEDNESDAY 17 NOVEMBER
Today we looked at robots and toys;
This is the first one i recorded. The idea was to juxtapose the man made robots/toys next to the natural floral designs. I used collage which worked quite well and did the basic line drawing.
I think the main aspect which makes the most contrast is the colour. The toys are bright and bold wheras the flowers are soft and blend together.
I looked at a few artists that use robots in their work such as Peter Blake and Eduardo Paolizzi.

Sunday
Tuesday --> London!
I went to the "drawing fashion" exhibition today at the design museum. It was very inspiring, I think Rene Gruau was my favourite illustrator mainly because of her drawing - "Dior's new look" drawn in crayon and watercolour in 1948. A very interesting exhibition all documented in my research file.

Monday = Beth Chatto Gardens
The gardens were beautiful but it was freezing! We had to bring an A3 sketchbook and drawing equipment. The main ideas of the day were to be looking and recording the shape, pattern colour and texture. Over the day we did a series of drawing and paintings with the outcome in mind; a circle skirt.
To explore the different ways of recording the plants and flowers I used different drawing techniques. Using two colour pencils at the same time worked really well and also the 15 minute paintings in water colour.. Not as good as they might have been but they give a sense of the layers and shape and in there own sense create a pattern.

(the back^)
Techniques and materials used;
Tie DyeInk
Rouching
Ripped
Bleached
Cut
Knotted
Sewn
Plaited
Photocopy garment? For fashion illustration..
I took some photos of Cat and Gabby in my jacket; i thought Cat's modern outfit would compliment my jacket and Gabby's boots and skirt would go really well..

Day 4.. Thursday 11th Nov
As I already had an idea about how it all might fit together I got that part done quite quickly and my spare dyed material from the coat fit the gaps to make it a jacket.. I even made a hood! It definitely improves the garment. I hand stiched up all the parts soi could get someone to wear it..
So from this -->
to this -->
Wednesday
Day 3.
I've found a new day can always open you to new ideas.. you look back at your work with a mind. I didn't take the dyed materials to college but i worked into the rest of the fabric left over.
I decided something had to be done with the fur collar, I chopped it up and sewed put a strip either side of the zip. I also experimented with the idea that i liked at the beginning; rouching the material.
The session I found useful today was exploring printing. By mixing up the colour of our garment and an accent colour we did repeat patterns in our sketchbook. My colour pallet was made of of a cream/brown, purple, black and yellow. We used a a piece of material to print with but a harder piece so I could get an edge.
Tomorrow we are reconstructing this coat into a cropped jacket. Should be fun!

Pathway stage. Week 1. Day 1
'Break it down. Stitch it up'
This is the title of my first fashion project, after a lot of discussion with my tutors we decided I would start in fashion and if I didn't like it i would go back to my first pathway - fine art.

This is the title of my first fashion project, after a lot of discussion with my tutors we decided I would start in fashion and if I didn't like it i would go back to my first pathway - fine art.
We had to draw a garment, my first drawings weren't very successful but got better as the day progressed.
Then we had to deconstruct it. Tear, shred and cut it it taking photos as we go.
(note: need to buy fabric scissors)
I saved every part of the coat that I cut up; buttons, labels etc. I am going to use fashion manipulation to experiment with what the materials will do. I think today's session was fun and well taught.
